If the 2013 SRT Viper wasn’t good enough for you then you may be happy to hear about SRT’s latest creation, the 2014 SRT Viper TA. Short for “Time Attack” it boasts a series of enchantments including an eye catching, “Crusher Orange” exterior paint job.
Let’s step back a few months when pro racer Randy Pobst got behind the wheel of the SRT Viper GTS and Corvette ZR1 during a Motor Trend comparison test at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The ZR1 edged out the Viper GTS on the track and more importantly the driver set a new lap record for production cars. This outraged SRT and they have been hard at work on a response and today they have revealed it.
Limited to only 33 units, the 2014 SRT Viper TA comes with the same V10 8.4-liter engine producing 640 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. However, being that the TA is a track car, SRT have added a lighter and stronger carbon fiber brace that replaces the standard aluminum structural X-brace. The “Time Attack” benefits from a newly installed custom-tuned suspension with a two-mode Bilstein Damptronic system for on-track usage. Other upgrades include Brembo brakes for better braking capabilities, new springs and stabilizer bars, and a set of lightweight, multi-spoke Sidewinder II wheels complete with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
For the 2014 SRT Viper Time Attack, SRT went back to the wind tunnels and added new exterior components, like carbon fiber front splitters, a rear spoiler and a carbon fiber rear. The in-house company went as far as removing badges and logos from the car and replacing them with stickers. All to accomplish one goal, which is to make the car as light as possible. The car’s weight stands at 3,348 pounds (1,519 kg), compared to the manufacturer’s curb weight of 3,354 (1,521 kg) for the stock Viper and 26 pounds lighter than the Viper GTS.
Not much was done inside the SRT Viper Time Attack besides added matching “Crusher Orange” accent stitching on the cloth seats, instrument panels and gauges. For curiosity’s sake, Motor Trend and Randy Pobst tested the car and completed a lap of 1:33.62 seconds around the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, beating the Corvette ZR1′s time.
2014 SRT Viper Time Attack will be revealed to the world at the 2013 New York City Auto Show next week.
